L397 Alenquer Tiger Plecos are a peaceful, hardy, and highly attractive dwarf pleco known for their bold orange and dark tiger-like pattern. Their striped body, small adult size, and shy but active grazing behavior make them a great choice for planted tanks, driftwood aquariums, and peaceful community setups.

These fish are tank-bred in Texas, making them a stronger and better-acclimated option compared with many imported plecos. They are small, peaceful bottom-dwelling catfish that spend much of their time grazing on driftwood, biofilm, rocks, and aquarium surfaces while resting under caves, wood, or plants.

The fish currently available are juveniles around 1.25–2.0 inches. Adult L397 Alenquer Tiger Plecos typically reach about 4–5 inches when fully grown.

Species Information

Common Name: L397 Alenquer Tiger Pleco, Alenquer Tiger Pleco, L397 Tiger Pleco
Scientific Name: Commonly sold as Panaqolus sp. L397
Adult Size: About 4–5 inches
Current Sale Size: Approximately 1.25–2.0 inches
Temperament: Peaceful
Care Level: Easy to moderate

Lifespan: Often 5+ years with good care

Recommended Tank Setup

L397 Alenquer Tiger Plecos do best in a mature aquarium with clean, stable water, driftwood, caves, and shaded hiding areas. They are peaceful with most community fish, but like many plecos, adult males may become territorial toward other male plecos if there are not enough caves or hiding spots.

Minimum Tank Size: 20 gallons recommended for one adult
Group Size: Can be kept singly, as pairs, or in breeding groups with enough space and caves
Temperature: 76–82°F
pH: 6.0–7.6
Substrate: Sand or smooth gravel preferred
Tankmates: Peaceful community fish such as tetras, rasboras, guppies, endlers, corydoras, snails, shrimp, and other calm community fish

Driftwood is strongly recommended for this species. L397 plecos naturally graze on wood, biofilm, and soft growth in the aquarium. Provide multiple caves, wood pieces, plants, or shaded areas so they feel secure.

Feeding

L397 Alenquer Tiger Plecos are good grazers, but they should still be fed directly. They enjoy a varied diet of:

Algae wafers, sinking vegetable pellets, blanched zucchini, cucumber, green beans, Repashy, driftwood biofilm, occasional frozen bloodworms, and high-quality sinking foods.

They will graze on biofilm, wood surfaces, and some soft algae, but they are not heavy glass-cleaning plecos like Bristlenose Plecos. Regular feeding is important for good growth, color, and body condition.

Why Choose These Plecos?

These L397 Alenquer Tiger Plecos are:

Tank-bred in Texas
Peaceful and community-friendly
Great for planted and driftwood tanks
Bold orange and black tiger pattern
Smaller than common plecos
Excellent biofilm and wood grazers
Good choice for pleco collectors
Raised locally and acclimated to aquarium conditions

Important Notes

L397 Alenquer Tiger Plecos stay much smaller than common plecos, making them a better choice for most home aquariums. They do best with clean water, stable conditions, driftwood, hiding spaces, and direct feeding.

They may help graze on soft algae and biofilm, but they should not be sold as a main glass-cleaning pleco. For algae control on glass, Bristlenose Plecos are usually more effective.

Live arrival guarantee. Please acclimate slowly and place them into a fully cycled aquarium.
